Visit to the Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey in Japan

Posted on January 26th by Satoshi Katada

After the year-end vacation, which also served as a medical examination, I returned to Istanbul on Monday. Even so, it was a heavy snowfall, and if it was a flight one day later, the flight was canceled. I was lucky.

In Tokyo, I held meetings with each department of the head office and visited many customers. Also, this time, I had the opportunity to visit the Embassy of the Republic of Turkey in Japan and meet with His Excellency Korkut Güngen. We explained our activities in Turkey, especially because Turkey has a flexible immigration system, which makes it a valuable place for seafarers to change, and for that reason, many ship owners carry out the regular inspections of vessels at the Turkish ship yards.

With the expected impact of Covid 19 on the tourism industry in the future, many cruise shipping companies have had to decide to dismantle many passenger ships that are still operational, and so many cruise ships were sent to Turkish ship-recycle yards in Aliaga.

Since there is little awareness in Japan about the Turkish maritime industry, which is also ahead of the construction of electric ferries and tag boats, such as the shipbuilding industry and the manufacture of ship parts, I talked about my target to develop the activities to connect Turkish maritime industry with the maritime industry of Japan including ship owners. The ambassador said that the embassy would also be able to support the activities. I was reminded of the goal of working to cooperate as much as possible in further evolving the relationship between Japan and Turkey.
