Karasu Port

Posted on August 17 by Satoshi Katada

I visited Port of Karasu, a strategic port facing the Black Sea on the north side of Sakarya. When I visited in 2018, it was just completed and it was a quiet port, but I was surprised at the big change. Ferries to Ukraine were operated and many trucks and trailers were coming and going. In addition, access to the highway has improved significantly, and I am confident that it will establish the status of a gate port with the Black Sea countries in the near future. Even in Japan, RORO / ferry is an important means of transportation, and MOL is its largest operator of RORO/feries. In Japan such ships will be replaced within 20 years by new-built vessel, but I think that if we systematically bring such vessels to the Black Sea route, we will be able to provide competitive services.
