Last month I had a chance to visit Mount Sherkala near village Shetpe in Aktau city in Kazakhstan.

It takes 2 hours to Shetpe from Aktau Airport and 30 minutes from shetpe to Sherkala.

Mount Sherkala is a mysterious mountain, formed of clay, limestone, sandstone, and chalky rocks.

Mount Sherkala has been described as looking like a piala (a small bowl), a yurt (Kazakh national round house) or a lion.

According to historians, a fortress city once stood near it. The ruins, which you can see here, are traces of an ancient burial.

There are so many legends and war stories related to Sherkala Mountain.

It was on the way of Silk Road and there are remains of medieval Cervanserai(inn for merchants and travellers).

It is said that the shape has created by the earthquake, retreating of the sea (It was under sea before), many years wind and rains.
