Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL) has signed a long-term time charter contract with Singapore LNG Corporation for a new Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU). The FSRU will be constructed by Hanwha Ocean Co., Ltd. in South Korea and to be anhored at Jurong Port in Singapore. This facility will be the first FSRU in Singapore, playing a key role in receiving, storing, and regasifying LNG, which is vital for the country's energy supply, as about 95% of its power generation relies on imported natural gas.
MOL, with extensive experience in operating FSRUs globally, aims to meet the increasing demand for diversified LNG procurement and stable energy supply. This project corresponds to MOL's broader vision to expand its non-shipping business and enhance low-carbon initiatives as part of its "BLUE ACTION 2035" management plan. FSRUs are more cost-effective and double quick enable to build compared to traditional onshore facilities.
